Yahoo! Search Update!

Yahoo! Search has made some changes to their index with crawling, indexing and ranking algorithm updates. Prior to the launch of Dynamic URL Rewriting in Site Explorer, millions of URLs were rewritten based on webmaster submissions, resulting in better crawling from Yahoo! Slurp.

Due to these changes, Yahoo! Search has been improved drastically. For instance, Search Assist (the feature that gives searchers suggestions on related queries) has becomes even more intelligent. Yahoo! not only suggests related searches for a specific query, but will also give an option to choose related concepts.

For example, the query “United Nations” would display related search results such as: General assembly, 1945, League of Nations, secretary general, and more. See the screen shot below. If a user clicks League of Nations, the page will display search results for “United Nations + League of Nations” – thus providing a more targeted search and a better overall better experience for the user.

In addition to Search Assist, Yahoo! Search has added videos into the SERPS, just like Google did a few months back with the introduction of Google Universal. See an example for the query “Skateboarding Dog” at the top of the next column.
